@Rippler Ah, I see what you mean. The modularity is almost something we take for granted these days. It would certainly be a big help in the military: crushed buffer tube/stock? Take it to the armourer for a replacement or throw on a different lower! Speaking of attachements and such, lots of designs, like the AK and SKS, definitely don't lend themselves to taking a solidly-mounted optic atop the receiver; you have to rely on side-mounted options instead, due to the loose dust covers. I suppose the Russians make due with that just fine, though. I have airsoft replicas of a VSS and a PSO-1 and that high optic isn't bad. At least you can still see your irons on set-ups like that. heh heh. It's pretty sweet to be able to slap any AR upper onto any old lower, given any two are meant for a compatible calibres. I wouldn't mind getting into 300BLK down the road.
Oh, yes, the 510! I've seen some videos of it before. Some people don't care for the asthetics of it, but I like that beefy, industrial look to it. I sort of like the looks of it for the same reason I like those of the STG-44. Unfortunately, I can't own an Sig-510 where I live. The closest I can get is a K-31, and I only say that because they both have beer keg bolt handles XD. Wow, I didn't know how accurate they were. You can't ask for better accuracy than that in a gas-driven gun, really. Leave it to the Swiss, right? Impressive! That takes 7.5x55, right? I've heard such great things about the surplus GP11 ammo that's out there. It's supposed to be top-tier stuff. Speaking of Sig-designed guns, I've been eyeing up the SG-542 for a while, but they're a bit too expensive. They're a battle rifle contracted to be made in Chile for their military. I shot one not long ago and it was pretty soft shooting in comparision to the ancient FAL I tried out at the same time. Perhaps the adjustable gas system was set to run a bit softer on the 542, or perhaps the FAL was over-gassed for that load.
@Rippler That's right, man. Fascinating small arms history right there! Ans speaking of the AR-10, have you seen those look-alikes Brownells has come out with?! I just found out about it a few days ago. Super excited about it! Trigger-style charging handle and everything.
And about the G3, yes, I've always liked how it'll just eat anything because of it's action. Definitely one of my dream guns, even though I can't get it or a clone where I live. haha.
Also, I wasn't really aware of the original AR-10's modularity. To what extent did they trick it out to back in the day? I suppose just by looking at it a guy could easily change out the pistol grip and other parts that are typical on an AR-15. Imagine accessory-mountable forends for it in the 50s/60s? heh heh! Maybe a giant incandescent flashlight on it.
@Rippler Heh heh. Thanks man. I can't stop drooling over battle rifles, specifically the original AR-10. If it wouldn't have been for the prototype malfunctions at Springfield, then maybe these would have had a better shot at becoming the service rifle. But at the same time, given the nonsense that happened with America's last minute switcheroo they pulled on NATO by adopting Springfield's M14 instead of the FAL, I wonder if ArmaLite had a chance to begin with... That, and militaries are always weary on adapting new tech that's not quite proven yet. But then the Gov't's obsession with the 7.62 faded away, ArmaLite made the Ar-15 and the rest is history...
Speaking of battle rifles, I was pretty bummed that there aren't any good G3 mods on this site. I found one that wasn't too terrible, but the lack of a proper HK slap charging animation sorta ruins the immersion for me. The heritage of that gun is so interesting too.
@Rippler No problem. And I totally understand. Wasn't sure how you had been going about with your updates, so I thought it could be helpful information. I wouldn't change the fundamentals of a mod I made either if there were just no way to make it work with the storyline gameplay, or if individual games may be slightly different due to said potential legacy stuff. Worst case scenario is I turn off the .asi loader like the flip of a switch.
I hope you enjoy your new hardware!
@Rippler Hey man, I did some testing and uninstalled the euphoria mod I had. In that one mission with the helicopter I was talking about, Soloman still died. So, I uninstalled your mod and the mission ended fine.
Also, I had issues with a mission called "Monkey Business," in which I had two problems that were fixed by removing RR. First, there's a scripted part where Dave is supposed to run up to a wall while clearing a room and then bound off of it and continue running on through the level. I had an issue where he was stuck, running into the wall. It made the mission impassable. The only other problem I had was minor, and that was a part where I have to stun a security guard. With RR installed, I would continuously stun him at the request of the one FIB agent, but the game wouldn't let me progress, having the agent endlessly tell me to finish stunning him. Aside from removing RR, the only way around it was to punch/kick the guy, then the game let me carry on.
I hope this helps with your progress on this mod!
To carry on from our earlier dialogue: No problem, man. I'm glad to see a fellow shooter on here making a difference in the GTA modding community by making the game more satisfyingly realistic!
@jspeed I'm confused about the add-on installation instructions. What's the point of adding in a new car to the game if we're going to be modifying the Vacca carcols data and then spawning the Countach by spawning the Vacca? Shouldn't we be able to add new data to carcols for the new Countach and spawn it in-game under its own name as well, if this were a true "add-on?"
@Rippler No problem, man. I appreciate the kind and timely reply. I didn't want to pinpoint one mod at the time. I suppose it would have been much more helpful of me to have uninstalled the mods one at a time to see what was the true cause of it rather than post a concern that leads to more questions. Makes sense that it could be the Euphoria mod; perhaps Soloman's ped spawns strangely due to the different ragdoll physics of the mod and he ends up dead when I trigger him to appear. I'll do some fiddlin' and let you know what I find out!
P.s. I am really loving the mod! And thanks to your recommended sound mod, firing the LMG really reminds me of Heat during the big heist scene!!! Music to my ears. The new recoil is such a breath of fresh air too. As a shooter I appreciate things like this.
One thing I haven't assessed too closely yet as far as realism goes, so take this with a grain of salt, is the damage taken falling off dirt bikes. Perhaps I'm too used to racing games and standard GTA health, but I get bummed out when I die after taking a bad fall, albeit a nasty one (but maybe shouldn't be nasty enough to nearly kill me). haha. I'm not sure if you've ever checked it out, but take a look at movies like Seth the Hard Way (or Crusty Demons), where there are some big crashes. Granted, Seth's big jump crash in that movie had him nail his head against his handlebars while still going in a direction parallel to the ground, not headed directly down, face-first into a rock on Mt. Chilliad at a ridiculous speed. I am probably underestimating how fast I'm going and how far I'm falling when I get flung off my bike in game. Just a topic that's food for thought!
@blade125 The suppressor isn't working properly for me; it briefly shows up for a fraction of a second upon displaying it in the gun store, but it quickly switches back to the default model.
@Rippler I think there might be a problem with your mod and the mission Mr. Richards; when I land the helicopter in the empty pool I fail the mission with "Solomon died," even though he's nowhere close to the helicopter. When I disable my mods the mission ends perfectly fine. The only other mods I have installed are a Euphoria mod, a car and a rifle.
You forgot to add the rear peep sight! Any chance you'll update this model and perhaps make it animated with a working charging handle? Aside from that, I'm really liking the model! I'm trying to find the best classic-looking M4 out there right now with a carry handle and ribbed handguard, so, naturally, I downloaded your mod!
